If you are an active Uber, Lyft, or Black Car driver in New York, you may already be eligible for the Drivers’ Benefits program run through the New York Black Car Fund and the Independent Drivers Guild (IDG). The dental coverage through this program runs up to $2,000 per year, and it costs you nothing out of pocket. It is funded through a small surcharge that passengers pay on each ride, so the benefit is already being built up every time you complete a trip.

Uber has a partnership with Stride Health, a marketplace where drivers can shop for their own health and dental plans at group rates. To access it, you need to have completed at least one trip in the past month and be enrolled in Uber Pro. Through Stride, many drivers end up on Renaissance Dental plans, which are underwritten specifically for the gig worker market.
